A group of dedicated students of Zakir Husain College of Engineering & Technology have been working on Autonomous Underwater Vehicles for the past 5 years. Now it is upon our shoulders to carry their mission forward. We have created the students chapter Autonomous Underwater Vehicle- Zakir Husain College of Engineering & Technology (AUV-ZHCET) which will give us the platform we need. Our club gives aspiring engineers an opportunity to explore the depths of the oceans and the fields of mechanical, electronics and computer engineering. The students will learns the skills of underwater robotics and Artificial Intelligence. We have won a few competitions and received a lot of appreciation for our designs in particular. We are targeting several other competions nationally and internationally like SAVe, SAUVC and ROBOSUB. To design and fabricate the AUV we have formed 4 multidisciplinary teams - working on the same goal.
The Marine Technology Society promotes awareness, understanding, and the advancement and application of marine technology. Incorporated in 1963, the international society brings together businesses, institutions, professionals, academics, and students who are ocean engineers, technologists, policy makers, and educators. MTS facilitate a broader understanding of the relevance of marine technology to wider global issues by enhancing the dissemination of marine technology information. It also advance the development of the tools and procedures required to explore, study and further the responsible and sustainable use of the oceans. The Society publishes a peer-reviewed journal — The Marine Technology Society Journal. It has three technical divisions and 31 Professional Committees (technical interest groups). The society hosts several conferences yearly. And, it supports 13 Sections, which focus on events and programs unique to their geographic areas, enhancing networking among local colleagues, businesses, universities and government/military offices.
As founding members, we wanted to introduce our college undergraduate students to underwater technology. For this, Marine Technology Society was the best choice as their vision aligned with ours, which is to spread awareness, understanding, and the advancement and application of marine technology. We wanted to allow our students to have a platform by which they could interact with other international students through their research and innovative ideas. The eight of us decided to have a chapter of MTS at the college after knowing the countless yet priceless opportunities the students can get by being a member of the MTS chapter in research and innovation of underwater technology.

The Mechanical team is responsible for all the various Mechanics and Actuation tasks along with proper designing and simulation of vehicle. The team uses concepts of Structural Mechanics, Fluid mechanics, Material Technology, Thermodynamics and software i.e. Solidworks and ANSYS to Design, Simulate and Fabricate the Vehicle. The fabrication is done in such a way that vehicle has no leakage. For that, proper sealing is done through O-rings and Gaskets along with SEACON Penetrators and Connectors. Team uses Economic as well as performance enhancing materials to enhance the Vehicle. . Generally Acrylic and Aluminium is preferred and at places where stress concentration is high, stainless steel is used. The vehicle is made with close tolerances with proper calculations of Centre of Gravity, Centre of Buoyancy, Buoyancy, weight and other forces like drag and lift to obtain maximum stability and degrees of freedom.

The software team of the AUV-ZHCET is responsible for introducing the autonomous features in the vehicle. We use ROS(Robot operating system) and various other technologies for that purpose. Our team is also responsible for the vision of the AUV too. We use technologies like openCV for the purpose of object detection so as to perceive the vehicle's surroundings and making the autonomy of the AUV more robust. The software team uses an Intel core i5 7th generation processor to boost processing speeds. We also use different visualisation tools such as gazebo simulation software for testing. The actual testing is carried out in University pool but gazebo provides a much needed ideal condition parameters for actual testing and underwater run of the AUV

We, the Electronics team does all the tasks such as designing the circuits, operating different sensors, and ensuring efficient power management. For maintaining proper stability of AUV, we develop an autonomous electronic mechanism for the acquisition of data from the surroundings using various devices and industrial graded sensors. We also control the motion of our vehicle by operating thrusters at the required rpm. The proposed design of our electronic circuits and devices ensures that our vehicle is very cost effective and economical. By being a part of this team one can gain experience in the real time Artificial Intelligence. task of the electronics team is the designing of circuits, operating different sensor arrays , and ensuring an efficient power management .

If the technical teams are the mind of the club the management team is the heart. Any organization, institution, forum or club cannot solely depend on the thinking minds for Its progress, there has to be someone to manage everything. Our tasks can often be as challenging and complex as the fabrication and designing of the AUV. For this we have the Management team, that ensures a hassle free working experience for the club. The team helps in organizing events, workshops, meeting etcs that promote our club activities. Here the social media content is created and updated for various platforms like Facebook, YouTube and Instagram. We're also responsible for the financing of the club by procuring funds and gathering sponsors. We manage and allocate the funds prudently. The management team is the interface of the club and the corporate world. It gives members a glimpse of what Its like and what it takes to handle one the most important task of getting funds for the club.
